Although Ken and I have been divorced many years, I never stopped thinking of Bea as my mother-in-law; it was wishful thinking, I suppose? She was the kindest woman I have ever met or will ever meet. During my decade with Ken, I never heard her voice one negative thought about another individual, although I’m sure there were times when some of us deserved it.
Everyone who knew her was aware of her sweet disposition and her meek nature was of biblical proportions (this is a compliment). She had a light, wispy, joyful, uplifting spirit. Did you know she used to dance to music in the privacy of her own home? She also liked to sing hymns while she ironed Ken’s shirts (a practice I discouraged owing to the fact that I thought it made me look like a slacker).
Ken & Cathy (et. al.), please accept my heartfelt condolences. I know it sounds trite, but she’s probably singing bluegrass hymns in heaven right now? God speed, Bea! We are all better people for having known you!
