Kathleen Louise (Jones) Hickman
August 31, 1947 - March 29, 2022
Kathleen Louise (Jones) Hickman, 74, of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 29, 2022 after a 21 year long battle against cancer. She was surrounded by her family. Now she knows the secret. She was born on Sunday, August 31, 1947, at Baptist Hospital in Nashville, TN, to Kenneth and Ruby (Pulley) Jones, who preceded her in death. She grew up her entire life at 1002 Broadmoor Drive, in Inglewood, TN. She began her education at Jere Baxter Elementary School before transferring to Dan Mills Elementary. From there, it was on to Isaac Litton Junior / Senior High where she graduated. After high school, she continued her education at Draughon’s Business College, located in downtown Nashville, TN. After graduation from college, she began her business career at the Credit Bureau of Nashville. Following that, she was employed at INA (Insurance Company of North America) located on James Roberston Parkway in Nashville. She next went to work for the State of Tennessee in the Department of Children’s Services, working on the licensing of Day Care Centers. She left this job after the birth of her children to be a stay at home mom. She met the love of her life, Ernie Hickman, at Eastland Baptist Church in 1973. They were married there June 8, 1974. After a honeymoon trip to Savannah, GA, they established their first home in Inglewood where they lived her entire life. While attending Eastland Baptist Church, she became involved with the Children’s Church Ministry. After she and her family joined Dalewood Baptist Church, she taught in the Kindergarten Department with Mrs. Marion Webber . She later felt the call to teach in the Special Needs Class with Mr. Wilson Henderson. Since there were only 3 men in the class, Donald, David, and Doug, it quickly became known as the 3D Class. This truly was her calling in life. Kathleen was also the director of Dalewood’s Parents Day Out beginning in 1998 until her cancer diagnosis in 2001. She was always quick to laugh and slow to anger. She loved the Beach Boys, I Love Lucy, the Beatles, and Johnny Cash; and not necessarily in that order. She was a voracious reader; her main interests being history and biographies. She endured countless hours of John Wayne movies with no complaint. She had the privilege of leading her grandson Kyle to salvation at an early age in the backyard of her home on Plymouth Avenue. Kathleen is survived by her beloved husband of 48 years, Ernie; daughters Kelly Hickman Walker (Chris), Julie Hickman; grandsons Kyle and Cameron Walker; sisters-in-law Gail Hickman, Debbie (Hickman) Erwin (Cary), nephew Matthew Erwin; best friend Elizabeth Reeder; brother Wendell Jones (Jackie); her many nephews and nieces and the rest of her family and friends. All of these people she loved and touched deeply. The family extends a special thank you to them for their thoughts and prayers. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 1 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, April 2 at 11:30 am with visiting time an hour prior from 10:30 am until 11:30 am at Dalewood Baptist Church, 1586 McGavock Pike in Nashville. The committal service will immediately follow, via an escorted cortege, at the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
