To view the livestream of Bettye's service, click here. Bettye Jean Hart, 87, of Greenbrier, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022. Born August 17, 1934, in Russellville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Elizabeth Bennett Oakes. Bettye attended Olmstead Elementary School and Logan Elementary School before moving on to Russellville High School where she graduated in 1952. Bettye would go on to graduate from nursing school at Baptist Hospital in Nashville where she would work for several years afterwards. She served as Admin Associate for Orthopedics at Vanderbilt University for 21 years and retired on disability due to illness. She was an avid bowler and attended numerous national and local tournaments with her family and bowling friends. She was a member of mixed leagues and bowled in Women’s Major League for several years at Donelson Plaza. She was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 3 of Nashville and an avid supporter of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Merra Hart Stracener; grandson Stephen Wesley Stracener; husband of 67 years James E. Hart, Sr.; brother Col. Roy Oakes; nephew John F. Oakes; aunt Lavinia Oakes. She is survived by her children Lorrie Hart Martin and Jimmy (Deana) Hart, Jr.; grandchildren Lindsey Hart, Brian Martin, and Crystal (Jeremiah) Martin Apple; great grandchildren Alexa Riley, Jordan Martin, Julian Martin, Jonah Martin, Jeremiah Apple, Jr., and Sylas Cummings; nephew Mike (Lori) Oakes; niece Jennifer Oakes; great nephew Caleb Oakes. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 12 pm noon until 2 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of Life officiated by Mary Boggs will take place at 2 pm on Thursday with burial following in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
