Billy Akin, 86, passed away on January 23, 2022, He was born on October 20, 1935 in Nashville, TN. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olive and Thomas and his wife Betty as well as his daughter, Lisa. He is survived by his grandsons, John and Joshua Duncan, his niece, Suzanne Miller and nephews, Dennis and Neil Akin. Billy was a member of Belmont Church. He was known and loved for his kindness and constant encouragement. He never hesitated to help anyone in need. He spent more than forty years employed by Bell South in Nashville, retiring as a department manager in 1994. He was also a member of the Tennessee Air National Guard where he served twenty years as a medic. Always eager to serve his community, he was an active volunteer with the Williamson County Red Cross, often serving to support first responders and assist families who were affected by fire or weather related tragedies. Billy was also passionate about Brentwood and good government. He was known for his political work, supporting important matters, especially encouraging people to vote. He often coordinated forums for political candidates to express their views. He generously supported the Brentwood Police Department as well. A charter member of the Brentwood Early Risers Toastmasters Club, Billy was highly regarded for his leadership and his encouragement of everyone who joined the club. Visitation with the family will be Friday, January 28, 2022 from 12-2 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home, Nashville, TN. A celebration of life funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
