Anne Baker's Obituary
Anne Howard Baker, 88, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011. Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth. Interment: Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, Tenn. Memorials: Wedgwood Baptist Church Building Fund. Anne was born and educated in Nashville, Tenn., the only child of Dewey and Irene Howard. On Aug. 4, 1943, she married Army Air Corps 2nd Lt. Elmer Wilson Baker Jr. After E.W.'s discharge from the Air Corps in 1945 as World War II was ending, the couple moved to the Rio Grande Valley (Weslaco) for two years before settling back in Nashville. In March 1951, Anne's life changed forever as E.W., an accomplished pilot and Air Force captain, was recalled to service due to the Korean War. Their first child was 8 months old. There were many assignments before and after 10 years at March Air Force Base, Riverside, Calif., when E.W. was transferred to Carswell Air Force Base, Fort Worth, in late January 1966. They joined Wedgwood Baptist Church on Feb. 3, 1966, where both taught adult Bible classes. Anne taught there a total of 36 years before health required her to retire in 2009. E.W. had resigned from the Air Force in April 1969. They had prepared to open A&E Real Estate Co., which they operated for 10 years before selling in 1979. Anne was president of the Fort Worth Board Women's Council of Realtors in 1973. She also taught a ladies Bible class for five years at First Baptist Church, Lynn Haven, when they chose to move to Florida, July 1986, after E.W. developed Alzheimer's. They returned to Fort Worth after the death of Anne's mother in 1991. Mrs. Howard had lived with them 37 years following the death of Anne's father in 1954 at age 56. Mrs. Howard had also taught a Bible class at Wedgwood Baptist Church for 20 years in earlier days. Anne was preceded in death by Lt. Col. E.W. Baker, her husband of 50 years, on Jan. 16, 1994; and her 22-year-old grandson, Joshua Baker, on Aug. 20, 2007.
