Mr. Anthony "Tony" Wood Johnson's Obituary
Hendersonville
Anthony (Tony) Wood Johnson, 76 of Hendersonville, TN passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Alive Hospice in Madison, TN of lung cancer.
Tony was born on August 27, 1941 in Nashville, and is preceded in death by his parents, Claude Dane and Doris Wood Johnson, and brother Aubrey Wayne Johnson.
As a young man, Tony moved to West Palm Beach, FL where he met and married Linda Nadine Coker. They were blessed with one daughter, Kimberly Nadine Johnson, and four grandchildren who survive. Other survivors include brother, Claude Alan Johnson of Murfreesboro, TN; sister Nancy Drake of Nashville, TN; and a host of extended family and friends.
Tony’s favorite vocation was landscaping. He particularly enjoyed working with the nursery in Homestead, FL. After Linda’s passing in October 2003, Tony retired and moved back to the Nashville area to be close to his family. Tony’s greatest pleasure came from being outdoors in nature. While living in Florida, he loved to fish and enjoyed shipping pounds and pounds of freshly frozen seafood to his Tennessee family. His extensive book collection included every subject imaginable. Tony’s nickname at Dicky’s was “Talking Tony” because he was a fountain of information that he was happy to share. Tony was an avid Nascar fan, never missing a televised race. He will be greatly missed.
The family is indebted to Julie Carney and Ron (Mushy) Smith for their compassion, physical care and loving support of Tony especially during his last months.
A special thank you to the staff and caregivers of Alive Hospice; Jenny Grant, Jennifer Hoscheit, RN; Dana Swindle, RN; and Jocelyn Bell, CHPCA
