Nashville, TN - Arthur Winfrey Walker Jr., 69, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2023, in Nashville, TN. He was born on September 23, 1954, and was the beloved husband of Tina Walker. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Arthur was a caring, passionate, and kind-hearted man who was loved by many. He had a great sense of humor and was always seen with a smile on his face. His warm and welcoming nature touched the lives of all who knew him.
Arthur grew up in Waverly, TN and was active in the community and his church. Arthur's educational journey was marked by his pursuit of knowledge and his strong faith. He graduated from Waverly Central High School in 1972. He went on to attend Oral Roberts University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biblical Literature and a master’s degree from the ORU Graduate School of Theology. Arthur completed his education by obtaining a master’s in Pastoral Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1981.
Arthur dedicated his life to serving others. While attending ORU, he served as director of the Christian Service Council and as a youth director at Bristow UMC in Oklahoma. He was also the director of Christians in Action, an interdenominational youth singing fellowship that toured the South sharing the message of our Risen Lord. After graduation, he began his career as a Minister in the United Methodist Church, providing spiritual guidance and support to many rural communities. In 1988, he embarked on a new path and established his State Farm Agency in Nashville. Arthur continued to serve in his role as an agent, mentoring and caring for his clients as family. His agency recently celebrated its 35th anniversary, a testament to his dedication and commitment to his clients.
Outside of his professional life, Arthur had a deep love for life and spending time with those he loved. He enjoyed creating lasting memories with his family and friends, cherishing every moment spent together. His free-spirited nature led to a love of travel, which he shared with his wife, Tina. Together, they enjoyed many adventures as a couple and with family and friends.
Arthur is survived by his wife of over 33 years, Tina, his son, Adam Tarpy Walker (Crystal) of Hendersonville, TN, and his daughter, Ashley Winfrey Walker (Rudy) of Gallatin, TN. He was a proud grandfather to Aiden Walker, Austin Walker, Christian Walker, Colton Walker, Kelsey Walker, Kaitlyn Abernathy, Cameron Abernathy, Kylie Abernathy, Summer Abernathy, Jadon Roper, Alaya Roper, and Jordan Roper. He is also survived by his great-grandchild, Brielle Pharris, his sister Melanie Mathias of Tulsa, OK, and his brothers Charles Allen Walker of Jackson, TN and Mark Walker of Waverly, TN. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Arthur Winfrey Walker Sr. and Jo Bone Walker.
The family cordially invites guests and relatives for a time of visitation on Thursday, November 2, 2023, from four o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening, and on Friday, November 3, 2023, from ten o’clock in the morning until the funeral service at twelve o’clock in the afternoon. The visitation and service will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville, TN.
Arthur Winfrey Walker Jr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and laughter will forever be treasured in the hearts of those whose lives he touched.
