Mrs. Barbara W. Brake's Obituary
Passed away on February 19, 2018. She is preceded in death by parents, Robert Clayton Whitaker, Sr., and Sara Omohundro Whitaker, and brother, Robert Clayton Whitaker, Jr. and survived by Delmas Brake, her husband of 43 years, his son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Karen Brake, and "granddaughter," Carrie, whom she loved dearly.
Barbara graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and went on to enjoy a long career at First American National Bank in Nashville where she was Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations. After leaving the Bank, she started her own marketing and public relations consulting business working with several organizations including Lifeway Christian Resources and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
She was active in professional clubs, volunteered at the Hendersonville Samaritan Thrift Store and held leadership roles with the Sumner County Republican Women. She was a member of St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church, serving on various committees. She loved her church, family, and friends and willingly supported various community activities.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 o'clock am, Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Road, Madison, TN with the Rev. Dr. Dwayne Tyus officiating and burial will follow at Hermitage Memorial Gardens, 535 Shute Lane, Old Hickory, TN. The family will receive friends at Spring Hill on Tuesday, February 20th from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and again on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Friends will serve as Pallbearers.
