Bertha Marie Dixon's Obituary
Bertha Marie Dixon of The Singing Dixon Family. August 5, 1923 to Feb. 19, 2011. Bertha Marie Dixon, know as Mother Dixon of the The Singing Dixon Family, was in the staff band of Ernest Tubb Gospel Time in the late 60’s. Bertha Dixon died in the home of Brenda Bradley her daughter and son in law, Wayne Bradley, while visiting since Oct. 2010. Bertha Dixon resided in the home of her daughter, Linda Dixon Rowe, and son in law Leonard Rowe, Sr., in Lebanon, Tn. She also has three sisters, Betty Epley, Lillian Tomlinson of Baltimore, Md. And Mary Shipley of Kingsport, Tn. She has two grandsons in Spartanburg, SC, Michael Calvert and wife Christy and Hayward Calvert. The family has sung southern gospel music all their lives. Mother Dixon always had her hand out helping new southern gospel groups to get going such as, The Cook Duet, The Green Family and many others. She taught all her family how to play music. Mother Dixon and her daughter Linda were in the TBN Music City Choir, Hendersonville, Tn. Mother told her daughter, Linda, that all the singing we had done was all for this anointed time of spreading the gospel around the world. At that time in 1999 – 2000 the gospel was spread literally around the world, reaching every spot. They reared in Kingsport, Tn. Back in the 70’s they had a hit called, “There’ll Be Shouting on the Hills of Glory.” Bertha Dixon has two daughters, Linda Dixon Rowe and Brenda Dixon Bradley and one deceased son Jerome L. Dixon, 1995. Her husband, Vilas H. Dixon died 1993. They were married for fifty years at the passing of Dad Dixon. We will be having a Memorial Service for Bertha M. Dixon on July 14th, 2011 at 2pm, which was their Anniversary day, at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville, Tn. Off Gallatin Rd. Music will be provided by The Singing Dixon Family and others. Everyone is welcome to come to rejoice in the parting of Bertha M. Dixon to that city that John saw, New Jerusalem. Heaven awaits us all, don’t give up.
