BETTE JEAN ALZEDA ARF ROWE
Madison, TN
Bette J. Rowe, age 95, died at home as she desired on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Windlands East Retirement Home, Madison, TN
Born September 12,1920 in Joplin, MO, her family later moved to Nashville, TN. She considered herself a native Tennessean. Graduate of East Nashville High School 1937. Bette started a career with General Shoe or Genesco in 1939. She was a data processing supervisor in the Retail Division and converted the company’s systems to the first early computers. Retired in 1984 after 45 years of service.
Bette married her high school sweetheart Howard Young Rowe in 1942 before he left for the European Theater in WW2. They were married 49 years. Bette and Howard traveled extensively, enjoyed entertaining and were members of the Nashville City Club. Bette was former President of the Woman’s Club of Nashville. Attended Cleveland Street Presbyterian Church where she established lifelong friends and met her future husband. She was a member of Luton United Methodist Church.
Bette was an avid reader and imaginative playwright, directing numerous productions for her church and retirement home. Bette left a legacy of service and joy evidenced in her beautiful smile and positive attitude. She believed she had led a blessed life and had gotten to do everything she wanted. GREATLY missed by those who knew her well.
Preceded in death by husband, Howard Y. Rowe and brother-in-law Richard Luton Rowe. Survived by nephew Richard Luton Rowe Jr. (Rick) and wife Donna and grandnephew Jordon and grandniece Eden Rowe of Goodlettsville, TN. Niece Dawn Rowe Porter and husband Richard and grandnephews Garrison & Christian and grandniece Leighton Porter of Knoxville, TN. Also survived by sister-in-law Evelyn Rowe of Hendersonville, TN. Nieces Dottie Sims and Marilyn Wilson of Smyrna, TN. Extended family member Ann Luton Locke of Nashville, TN.
Memorial service 12:00PM, Wednesday, July 27, 2016 Spring Hill Funeral Home. Visitation 10:00 AM -12:00 PM.
