Ms. Bettie Jean Owen's Obituary
Ms. Bettie Jean Reed Owen, age 91, of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Friday May 5, 2023. She was born on May 18, 1931 in Nashville to the late Lester and Lillian Reed. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Owen, Sr. and grandson Brian Owen. She is survived by her children Connie Lawson and Buddy Owen, siblings Franklin Reed, Frances Fairbarin, Jimmy Reed, and Juanita Jernigan, grandchildren Josh Hardin and Michelle Peach, and great-grandchildren Lillian Hardin, Noah Hardin, Zack Scott, Brianna Davis, Aydan Peach Brianna Peach, and Ayla Peach as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Bettie, also known by many as “Aunt Bettie” was the sweetest person you could ever meet, and always made everyone in the room feel included. She constantly wore a radiant smile that drew others to her, and a positive attitude that could perservere anything in this lifetime. When asked by a stranger, “Why do you smile so much?” her response was, “That is just Christ shining through.” Bettie was strong in her faith and lived it every day. Bettie was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a place she held very dear in her heart. Her church family and friends were so important to her. She loved to care for people and one of the biggest ways she made sure to do that was by feeding people, as her ham and rolls were the star dish of every party or church dinner. Bettie was an excellent cook, and you could be guaranteed that you would not leave her home with an empty stomach if she had anything to say about it. Bettie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother (“GG”), and she will be dearly missed. There is a saying “GG” would say to her grandkids, and it is exemplary of the beautiful soul and lady she was on this earth: “I love you little, I love you big, I love you like a little pig!”
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 20, 2023 at 2pm in the Chapel at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville, with the family receiving visitors one hour prior to the service.
