Betty K Hicks' Obituary
Betty Kathryn Judd Hicks, a lifelong resident of Nashville, passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 95, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Nashville in 1930, Betty attended Nashville schools and graduated from East High School in 1947. She met Calvin Edwin Hicks in 1950. A Virginia native, Calvin had served in the military and came to Nashville to attend the Nashville Auto Diesel College. Betty’s family rented a room to him, and the rest is history! The couple were married in 1954. They built a home in East Nashville in 1956, where they lived for many decades.
Before starting her family, Betty worked at Genesco for fourteen years, where she was known for her dedication and strong work ethic.
Betty was the heart of her family—a devoted wife, nurturing mother, and proud grandmother. She was known for her warmth, hospitality, and impeccable homemaking. Her dining table was always thoughtfully set with seasonal linens, and her kitchen was a place of comfort and joy. Betty’s baking was legendary, especially her Christmas cookies and candies, which she lovingly prepared and gifted to dozens of friends and family each year—a tradition now carried on by her granddaughters.
She also had a deep love for travel, with a special fondness for cruises and camping. Whether sailing through tropical waters or sitting beside a crackling campfire under the stars, Betty embraced the joy of exploration and the simple pleasures of nature.
A charter member of Valley View Baptist Church in East Nashville, Betty served faithfully in numerous leadership roles, leaving a lasting impact on her church community.
Preceded in death by husband, Calvin Edwin Hicks, Father, William Early Judd, Mother, Kate Irene Judd, Brother, William Maxie Judd, Sister, Janie Juanita Jacobs. She is survived by her sons, Keith (Teresa) Hicks and Kevin (Tricia) Hicks; and her grandchildren, Justin McFerrin, Karlee Hicks, and Emily Hicks. Her family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at NHC Hendersonville for their devoted care in her final years.
Betty’s life was a testament to love, grace, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
