Betty Jane Jordan's Obituary
Betty was first and always a family woman. She was the loving daughter of Cornelius “Dad” Newland and Johnnie Lee Newland, both now gone, and the devoted wife of Lee Jordan, who passed before her.
She poured her generous, kind, humble, loyal, and compassionate spirit into raising her son, Eric Jordan, and welcoming his wife Kim as her own. Betty often said her greatest joy was helping Eric and his many friends grow into true gentlemen.
Those who knew Betty will remember her humming rhythm and blues while folding laundry, breaking into an impromptu two-step in the kitchen, or calling out game-show answers from her favorite armchair. She delighted in surprising neighbors with the meanest banana pudding you ever met this side of the Mississippi and never missed a chance to send thoughtful handwritten notes for every birthday, graduation, or milestone.
During quiet evenings she liked to listen to Doo-Wop music while relaxing in the house after finishing a good book. Classic television was another favorite; Little House on the Prairie, the Game Show Network, and spaghetti westerns starring John Wayne or Sam Elliott were always part of her routine.
Betty also loved to travel, especially on cruises where she could combine her fondness for music, reading, and seeing new places. Her enjoyment of simple pleasures encouraged everyone around her to slow down and appreciate life.
She is lovingly remembered by her son Eric (Kim) Jordan and her brother Lee Bubba (Michelle) Newland. She is reunited in peace with her sisters Joyce Smith and Mildred Hall.
We will keep hearing her favorite songs, opening new books, and planning future trips with her voice in our hearts. Betty showed us how to care for family and friends, and we promise to carry that kindness forward.
