Mrs. Betty Barnes Stewart's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Barnes Peak Stewart, 86, passed away on Sunday, March 9th, 2014. Born to parents Clifton D. and Thelma L. Roberson Barnes on January 12, 1928 in Nashville, TN. Betty was raised in Old Hickory, TN where she attended elementary school and graduated from DuPont High School in 1946. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Carson Newman College and earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Colorado (Ext.) in 1975. She was an elementary teacher for 40 years, retiring from Metro Nashville Public Schools in 1992. She was an active Christian since age 10, and an active member of Parkway Baptist Church for 35 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William ‘Bill’ R. Barnes (2013). She is survived by her devoted husband, Ray D. Stewart, her son, Dr. James F. Peak (Paige) of Richmond, VA and her daughter, Melissa Peak Haefele(Alan) of Franklin, TN. Other survivors include her grandchildren Meghann Owen, Matthew Hajacos, Chase Peak, and Cameron Haefele and great-granddaughter Madelyn Owen. The family will receive friends at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 2pm to 8pm. The funeral service will be held at Parkway Baptist Church at 1pm Tuesday, March 11, 2014 with Rev. Ken Castleberry officiating and with a visitation 1 hour prior to the church service. A private entombment will follow the church service at Spring Hill Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Parkway Baptist Church Mission Fund, 505 Cunniff Parkway, Goodlettesville, TN 37072. Active Pallbearers: Matthew Hajacos, Daryl Brady, Cameron Haefele, Larry Dibrell, Mike Woolfolk, Mark Butler, Steve Capley, & David Allen. Honorary Pallbearers: Open Arms Sunday School Class, Encouragers Sunday School Class, and Deacons of Parkway Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery.
