Beulah Ann Morgan Shumate's Obituary
Beulah Ann Morgan Shumate, age 93, of Madison, TN. Passed away November 29th 2024. She was born on November 13, 1931 to the late Walter Henry and Hazel McElhiney Morgan in Nashville, TN. Preceded in death by her husband of 62 years Robert Allen Shumate, three sisters, Elizabeth Morris, Donna Morgan, Helen Snell, two brothers, Walter Morgan, Jr., Forrest Morgan. She is survived by two daughters and spouses, Elaine and Phillip Draper of Madison, TN., Robbie and Gerry McMahon of Cottontown, TN., grandchildren, Trey (Becky) Howell, Travis (Deanna) Howell, G.T. McMahon, Priscilla McMahon, Matt (Rachel) Draper and James (Meddy Draper, great grandchildren, Billy Howell, IV, Cooper Howell, Brooks Howell and Lincoln Howell, McLaine Howell, Rylee Nelson, Trent Draper, Dejen Draper, Lacey Draper, Addilyn Draper, Matthew Coelho and Sarah Ann McMahon. Beulah was born in a family with the newspaper gene. At the age of fifteen, she was employed as a reporter, writer at the Nashville Banner before and after her graduation from East High School in 1949. She married Robert Shumate, a commercial photographer and Air Force veteran on December 1st, 1950. After starting their family with two precious daughters, she became a stay at home mom. Family was always her first priority. She started the Park Circle Ladies Club with twelve housewives meeting monthly for games, food, and fellowship at each of their homes. As the girls became older, she ventured back out into the working world. She was a bookkeeper and gift buyer for many years with the Zale-Broadnax Jewelry Chain. She left there to join her husband as co-owner of Shumate Construction and Development Company. After their final construction sight was finished, they retired in 1996. Her devotion for holidays was clearly open for all occasions which included three weddings at her old log house. Ms. Shumate was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ having member at Shelby Avenue, Old Center and Madison Church of Christ.
There will be a visitation Thursday, December 5, 2024, from 10 am until 12 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. The service will be at 12 pm in the Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow immediately after at Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
