Billie Jean Myers' Obituary
Our loving mother, Billie Jean Myers, age 89, passed away peacefully in the caring arms of
her children at her son’s home on June 10, 2024.
Billie was born on August 21, 1934, in Overton County, Tennessee. Throughout her life, Billie was a devoted wife and was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, James Ridley Myers. Together they raised two loving children Darryl Myers (wife Linde) and Vickie Graham; three loving grandchildren - Lindsay Young (husband Jeff Young), Chase Myers (wife Angela Myers), Ashlee Meier (husband Joel Meier), and six beautiful loving great grandchildren: Carter Myers, Jaymes Young, Christian Myers, Ava Grace Young, Elle Grace Myers, and Atlas Joy Meier.
Billie had many talents which included being a wonderful cook, whether it was a bagged lunch, a family dinner, a holiday feast, or (her famous) brownies for the school fundraiser or dorm room delivery, she could whip up something amazing and delicious. We knew it was always prepared with her superb skills but, also, with boundless love. She was a very talented seamstress and took great pride in making her daughter, Vickie’s, wedding dress. Billie was a passionate piano teacher, earning extra teaching credentials and taking on many students at the age of 50. Even with dementia, she played the piano at her son’s home just 2 weeks ago, and beautifully at that! But on the top of her list was being the best mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her pride and joys; they were her guiding light and her most treasured accomplishment. A fond memory was her passion for basketball and told all of us many times that her 8th
grade team won the State Championship for which she was very proud! Fun fact: they even beat the boys team.
Billie had a contagious laugh that brought joy to many. When she got particularly tickled, she could not stop laughing, which induced fits of laughter for everyone around, until she was laughing harder and harder, and we would all end up in a puddle of happy tears.
Gramma Billie, as she was known to so many, will be forever loved, remembered, and missed. She exuded passionate love for Jesus and, we believe, had a direct line for answered prayers. Billie truly was the best example of a Christian, with her favorite pastimes including reading the bible, reciting bible verses, and playing songs from her hymnals. Perhaps that is why, even after her mind and body began to challenge her, she maintained her hallmark kindness, grace, compassion, appreciation of family, and
expressed gratitude to the Lord.
Visitation will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024, at Spring Hill Funeral Home, Nashville 37216 at 10 am, the service at 12:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel and followed by a private burial.
