Billy Joe Hoskinson's Obituary
Billy Joe Hoskinson, 60, passed away at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee on July 17, 2022. He was born in Nashville to the late Billy Joe Hoskinson, Sr. and Vonda Styer. His parents moved back to their hometown of Zanesville, Ohio when he was very young. He grew up in Zanesville where most of his family is from.
He is survived by his minor children, daughter, Christiana Hoskinson and son, Christopher Hoskinson, his former wife of twenty years, Christy Hoskinson, and three step children - Angellena, Jesse and Josef. His Ohio family, adult son, Josh Hoskinson, his mother, Vonda Styer, his sisters, Gail Morgan, Agnes Bash, and Sammy Miller, his brother Mike Hoskinson, his nephews and their children: Travis (Travis, Jr., Addy,), David, Levi, Brent, Brad (Luther, Laiman), Michael and Cory, his nieces and their children: Vonda ( Kiersten, Kaitlyn), Wendy, Kelsie (Conlee, Jeremiah, Monika), Codie (Cayde), Ashley (Damien), Gracie, Debbie (Brandi, Seth, Blake), Brittney, Jody, and McKenzie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Joe Hoskinson, Sr., grandmother, Agnes Dillon and sisters Mary and Rita Jean.
Billy was interned at Mount Olive Cemetery in Sardis, Ohio where his great-great-great-grandfather, Azariah Hoskinson who donated the land that Mount Olive Church and Cemetery are located. This was something that Billy discovered by his Ancestry research.
Billy was a meat cutter by trade and began his apprenticeship at Kimball's Meat Market in Zanesville, Ohio when he was still in high school. He had a very strong work ethic and was a good provider for his family.
Billy could be a jokester, was witty, quick to come up with puns, and the epitome of "corny dad jokes". He loved anything outdoors, especially hiking with his family. One of his favorite hobbies was ancestry research and genealogy, he located many distant cousins and relatives and reconnected those family ties. Billy was a huge history buff and enjoyed visiting museums and gaining new knowledge about old things. He loved "Spaghetti Westerns" and Disney movies. Billy had a "thing" for tractors and large equipment, he never missed and opportunity to point out these big machines and talk about what they were used for.
Billy's greatest love in this life was his children and his family. He loved God, believed in the divinity of Christ, and his heart yearned to be a faithful servant. He was granted the grace of God to be free from the burdens of this earthly life.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, August 16 from 5:00 PM until the time of the Memorial Service at 6:00 PM at Inglewood Baptist Church, 3901 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216.
