Bobbie Gossage Mayes' Obituary
Bobbie Gossage Mayes was born June 21, 1925. She lived 90 years in Nashville, Tennessee and the last seven in Huntsville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Layton Arden Gossage and Annie Seat Gossage, her husband of 50 years Harold W. Mayes and son Kenneth A. Mayes.
She is survived by brother Layton A (Sue) Gossage, Jr., son Steve M. (Trish) Mayes, grandchildren Steven Mayes, Matthew (Morgan) Mayes, and Saroj Mayes. She has three great-grandchildren and she is also survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Mayes.
Bobbie graduated from East Nashville High School in 1943 and graduated from Ward Belmont College in 1945. After her marriage to Harold in 1947, she worked at General Shoe Corporation several years as a bookkeeper. Bobbie was an expert with a needle, thread, and yarn. Her knitted and crocheted pieces were works of art. She was a Cub Scout leader and saw both of her sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. When they were young, she was active in the PTA.
Bobbie was a long time member of Dalewood Baptist Church where she was busy with youth activities and church projects.
A life well lived.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 3 from 11:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 12:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville.
