Mrs. Carolyn Cole Melton's Obituary
Carolyn Virginia Cole Melton passed away peacefully on November 26, 2020, in Nashville after complications from pneumonia. She was 81.
She is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Earl Ray Melton; daughter, Nicole Melton; and a number of nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Grace Cole, and her brother Ronald Cole.
Carolyn was born in San Diego, CA, where her father, a serviceman in the Navy, was stationed. The family lived all over the US before moving to Clarksville, TN in the '50s.
After graduating from Highland Academy in 1957, Carolyn worked in bookkeeping for several Middle Tennessee companies, including the Tennessee State Board of Cosmetology. In 1968, she married Earl Ray, whom she met on a blind date arranged by friends.
After becoming a mother and stay-at-home mom, Carolyn did hand smocking and bookkeeping for her mother-in-law’s popular children’s store, Melton’s Gift Shop.
An avid hockey fan, she and her husband attended games going back to the '60s with Nashville’s first team, the Dixie Flyers. The Meltons were season ticket holders for the Predators’ first 10+ seasons. Carolyn also loved crossword puzzles and, as a trivia buff and life-long learner, the New York Times Sunday puzzle was seldom a match for her. She was a member of the Jacksonian Button Society, combining two of her special interests: history and sewing. She attended Grace Baptist Church.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 2 at 2pm in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are requested to meet at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 1:45pm to go in procession to the gravesite.
Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery has been entrusted with the final care of Carolyn. 5110 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216. (615) 865-1101. “Where Nashville Comes to Remember.”
