Ms. Catherine L. Ballew's Obituary
Ms. Catherine Ballew, age 80 of Old Hickory, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on April 23, 1939. She was preceded in death by her parents Benjamin and Clara Whitley, her husband Walter C. Ballew, Sr., her daughter Rita Michelle Ballew, her sister Florence Bennett, her brother Marvin Tomes, Jr., as well as her beloved dog, Rascal. She is survived by her children Walter C. Ballew, Jr. (Vicki), Diana Davis (Russell), and Michael Ballew (Barbara), her grandchildren Heather Davis, Russ Davis, and Jason Ballew, and her great-granddaughter Callie Rose Finn.
Catherine was a homemaker for most of her life, and she was the ultimate care giver. She was a great cook, and always made special meals to cater to everyone’s tastes. She made fabulous brownies and grilled cheese sandwiches, among many many other delicious treats. Her children were always the most popular kids in class on holiday party days in school, as she would always bring a treat or a fun little craft she had made. Catherine absolutely adored crafting, and was probably the most creative person you would ever meet. She could make a wreath out of anything, as Christmas was her favorite holiday, and Hobby Lobby was her very favorite place on earth. One of her favorite Saturday rituals was always breakfast at either Cracker Barrell or Waffle House and a trip to Hobby Lobby for the week’s crafting supplies. Even though she was a woman of small stature, Catherine more than made up for it with the size of her heart. She loved her family more than anything in this world. She was known for her (rather boisterous) “Love Pats” and the fact that she was an amazing prayer warrior. Every time her family would leave her home, Catherine would always say the prayer, “Guide, guard, and protect.” Any time someone told Catherine, they loved her, she would always respond, “If my heart had windows, you’d see how much I love you.” If Catherine’s family’s hearts had windows, we would see their love for her absolutely spilling out, because she has left behind a legacy that will last a lifetime.
A visitation for Ms. Ballew will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Monday, November 18 from 10am-12:30pm, with a service beginning at 12:30pm in the Spring Hill Funeral Home Chapel.
