Cook, Catherine Wiley - Died peacefully March 10, 2011. Born June 20, 1923 in Nashville, TN, the daughter of the late Catherine Davis Wiley and David Warren Wiley, Sr., she is preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Farris Cook Martin, and her grandson, George Alexander Martin. She is survived by her brother, David Warren Wiley, Jr. (Margaret); sons, Sam Lee Cook, III (Nicki), David Wiley Cook, (Susan), and Philip M. Martin (Margaret); grandchildren, Catherine Cook Parker (Thomas), Megan Cook Daniel (Barry), Philip Hutcheson Martin, William John Davis Martin, Cyrus Garnett Beasley (Melanie), and Margaret McKenzie Beasley; great grandchildren, Farris Parker and Cook Parker; niece, Ann Wiley Hunt; nephews David Warren Wiley, III and Price Hendricks Wiley; and other family members, Ann Hendricks Wiley and Rachel Blair. Mrs. Cook attended the Ward Belmont School and Mrs. Garrett's Finishing school. She was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Nashville in Oak Hill. She was a civic leader, active in the Junior League of Nashville, The National Society of Colonial Dames of America, the Polk Memorial, and an avid supporter of the arts, including Cheekwood Botanical Gardens and The Frist Gallery, just to name a few. She had a great work ethic, and after raising her children enjoyed real estate and running The Bargain Boutique with dear friend, Kay Alexander. Her passion was people, and she never met a stranger. Mrs. Cook loved her friends with all her heart, and had a big one at that; she was not happy unless she was doing something for her children or grandchildren - they were her life. She will be remembered as a caring and wonderful sister, mother, grandmother, friend, and confidant. Visitation with the family will be held Friday, March 11, 5-7pm and services on Saturday, March 12, 11am at First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, with a private family burial to follow. Honorary pall bearers are Bev Landstreet, Lannie Neal, Hutch Martin, Davis Martin, Thomas Parker, Barry Daniel, Rus Beasley, David Wiley, and Price Wiley. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Friends of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital, 2525 West End Avenue, Suite 450, Nashville, TN 37203 or First Presbyterian Church, 4815 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN 37220.
