Charles L. Blackwell's Obituary
Charles L. Blackwell, age 79, passed away April 27, 2013. Preceded in death by his parents Alton and Marie Cone Blackwell; brother and sister-in-law Melvin and Brenda Blackwell. He is survived by his wife of 21 years Betty Jones Blackwell; son Alan Blackwell (Tami); daughter Sonja Blackwell (Alex); grandchildren Heston Blackwell, Walker Blackwell, Ashley Hessing (Tommy); great-grandson Ledger Hessing; brothers Donald Blackwell (Sybil) and Tommy Blackwell (Betty). Charlie attended Donelson High School and Watkins Institute. After school, he proudly served his country in the US Navy on the U.S.S. Karatuck and U.S.S Tarawa during the Korean War. Charlie was a successful entrepreneur that owned and operated Data Cash Register Company(1959); numerous Captain D’s Restaurants; Commercial Laminations; Tullahoma Marine Company; Nashville Marine Company; and Liberty Insurance Company. He was a member of Hamilton Creek Methodist Church and the Cedar Creek Church by the Lake; the Jere Baxter Edgefield Lodge #254; Cedar Creek Yacht Club; Brentwood Shrine Golf Group; Al Menah Shrine Temple and Shriners of North America. He was an avid fisherman and golfer and loved spending time with his family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be Wednesday, May 1, 2013, 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. James Rowlett officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jim Anderton, Cody Blackwell, Steve Blackwell, Stan Goad, Keith Lightcap, and Roger Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Barr, Danny Blankenship, Jerry Bradley, Ron Chancey, Tom Cone, Dr. Bob Faber, Roy Flowers, Bobby Garrison, Judge Bill Higgins, John A. Hobbs, Bud Smith, Dr. John Thompson, employees of Commercial Laminations Corp., Data Cash Register Company, Lakeoff Company, and members of Cedar Creek Yacht Club. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday 4:00-7:00 p.m. with a masonic service beginning 7:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home.
