Charles Darrell Crook's Obituary
Charles Crook unexpectedly passed away at the age of 77 on December 19, 2010. Charles was a retired analytical research chemist with Boeing Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas and more recently with Dupont in Old Hickory, Tennessee. He was an avid reader and student of philosophy, physics, and mathematics. During his high school and university years he received many honors in the fields of chemistry and mathematics. He enjoyed sports participation and was an avid tennis player and swimmer. Charles was also a long distance runner and set many records. He attended the University of Kansas on a track scholarship. He also attended Wichita State University, graduating with advanced degrees and honors. A world traveler, Charles enjoyed many family trips. He also had faithful, four-legged companions - Fiona (Poopie-doop), Jayce, and Clause. Charles was a loving, caring, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather who always put others before himself. His family was his life. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Maude Crook; twin brother, David; and brothers Floyd and Frank. He is survived by the love of his life, Winn. They had been childhood sweethearts since the age of 13, and recently celebrated 58 years of marriage. Also surviving are his children, Kim Carter (Dr. Ted Carter), Washington; Lorianne Crook-Owens (Jim Owens), Nashville; and Bret Crook, Nashville and grandchildren, Dr. Ted Carter, California; Dan Carter, Arizona; Ashley Carter, Washington; and Jana Crook, Nashville. Charles is also survived by sisters, Mary Lou Blase, Phoenix; Jessie Knopp, Seattle, and brother Gary, Wichita. A memorial gathering will be held at Spring Hill Funeral Home on Gallatin Road, Madison, TN on December 27, 2010 from 2-4pm for friends and relatives.
