He is preceded in death by parents, AC Spurlock and Stella Spurlock Dodson, son William Matthew Spurlock, granddaughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Scarbrough, sister Carolyn June Anderson, brothers, Larry Spurlock, Harry Spurlock, and Kenneth Spurlock.
Those left behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Mary Lou Spurlock, children, Charles (JoAnna) Spurlock, Jr., Steve (Kami) Spurlock, Jackie (David) Miller, Valerie (Greg) Cox, grandchildren, Amanda, Ava, Emillie, DK, Tom, Ali, great-grandchildren, Lane, Uriah, Gavin, Bailey, and Carson, and great, great grandchild, Grayson.
Charles was the owner and operator of Spurlock Disposal. After Charles and Mary Lou married, they joined St. Joseph’s parish and raised their family in the North Nashville and Inglewood community. Charles was a strict but loving father who made sure to provide support and care for his family. He had an enduring love of hot rod cars, and that may have been what first drew Mary Lou to his side, but it was his passion for his family that he will forever be remembered.
As a younger man he participated in car racing, but as his family grew stepped back from racing and supported his son, Matt’s, racing ambition. Some of his favorite past times included watching car races and wrestling, and listening to gospel music, especially the Gaithers.
