Charles David Szostecki's Obituary
Charles David Szostecki, 65, died of natural causes at his home on Old Hickory Lake on August 30. Command Sergeant Major Szostecki was a highly decorated veteran of several wars and conflicts, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Panama, and Bosnia. He was the recipient of the Silver Star, a Bronze Star with Valor, a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service, seven Purple Hearts, and a CIB with two stars, to name just a few. He was a member of the Old Guard, serving as a Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. He had a total of thirty-four years active duty; thirty-one with the Army and three with the Air Force in Pararescue. Chuck was also Command Sergeant Major over the Corps of Engineers in Nashville during the "Thousand Year Flood" in 2010. When he retired from the Army, he ended his stellar career as a Command Sergeant Major in Special Ops. He had a Bachelor's Degree in military history, and a Master's Degree in Criminal Psychology.
He leaves behind a grieving family, including his fiance', Jenny Massie Lykins, his sister, Deborah Szostecki, four children, Christopher Szostecki (Misty), Joshua Szostecki (Amber), Jennifer Szevans (Aaron), Alexander Szostecki (Ally), nine grandchildren; Shianne, Charles, Elizabeth, Cedric, Celena, Jaylen, Robert, Clay, and Ronin, as well as numerous "unofficial" children and grandchildren among his friends and extended family. He also leaves behind two beloved pets, Ranger and Harley.
