Church Dunlap Howlett, Sr. – Age 92, of Nashville, joined his Lord and Savior Tuesday, May 4, 2010. Preceded in death by his wife, Thelma A. Baker Howlett; mother, Alma Celia Anderson Howlett; father, Horace Polk Howlett, all of Nashville; and son, C.D. Howlett, Jr. of Greeneville, TN. Survived by his sister, Beverly Celia Fallati of Nashville; son, Jack Randell Howlett (Marilyn) of Locust Grove, VA; and three stepdaughters, Elaine Boyer Stroud, Pamela Boyer Sands (Steve) of Nashville, and Cheryl Boyer Stem (Pete) of Hermitage, TN; eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.Mr. Howlett attended East High School and was a member of Inglewood United Methodist Church for over forty years. He retired from management at Aladdin Industries, Inc., and pursued another career of over 16 years with Gray Line Tours. Mr. Howlett worked in New Orleans, LA with Vultee Aircraft Corp. during WWII after which he returned to Nashville. His interests included league bowling, attending Vanderbilt University basketball and football games, playing his guitars and shining up his cars. He loved the railroad trains and trolley cars from his youth, which stemmed from his many visits to his father’s place of business at Railway Express Agency at Union Station in Nashville. During his teen years, Mr. Howlett also worked at Railway Express Agency.Visitation with the family will be Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home, 5110 Gallatin Pike, Madison, TN. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 7, 2010, in the chapel at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Pastor Cherie Parker officiating. Visitation one hour prior to service. Family members serving as pallbearers include Pete Stem, Chad Stem, Craig Stem, Steve Sands, Paul Carideo and Marty Lockhart. Interment at Spring Hill Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed, or in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Inglewood United Methodist Church, 3511 Gallatin Pike, Nashville, TN 37216.The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at both the Health Care Center and The Manor at McKendree Village for the kindness shown to Mr. Howlett in such a loving community of caring.
