Claudine Gaines Watkins' Obituary
Claudine Gaines (Claytor) Watkins of Hermitage, TN passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. She was born August 15, 1937 in Nashville, TN to the late Claude and Pauline Claytor, she lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith and family.
Claudine was a devoted mother of seven children: Sherrie (Rick) Stewart, Karen Bordon, Lori (Martin) Ashton, Gary Gaines, Jeffrey Watkins, and the late Mark Gaines and David Gaines Jr.; two stepchildren, Hank (Sandy) Watkins and Teresa Kemp. She was the proud grandmother to thirteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Her love for each generation was deep and enduring. She is also survived by two brothers, Claude Claytor Jr. (Becky) and John Leo Claytor (Linda).
Along with her parents and two sons, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Reed Watkins and granddaughter, Tai Gaines.
Few things thrilled Claudine more than setting sail on a cruise ship. She loved exploring new places, with Cozumel, Mexico, holding a special place in her heart. Each voyage added another bright chapter to her travels.
When she was home, Claudine found joy in her garden, especially while watching her peonies burst into bloom. Classic television shows kept her company during quiet evenings, and a cheerful shopping trip could turn an ordinary day into something special.
Those who knew her recognized her generous, resilient, and kind spirit. Her strong and trusting nature remained steady throughout every season of her life.
Claudine’s legacy lives on through her children and their families – each testament to her steadfast love, strength and guidance. Her life was marked by grace and unwavering faith. She brought comfort to those around her with her gentle presence and uplifted many with her enduring spirit.
May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by God’s everlasting light.
Celebration of life will be held at Saint Joseph Arimathea Episcopal Church, 103 Country Club Dr, Hendersonville, TN 37075 on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 6pm-8pm.
