Commander Scott Byrd's Obituary
Commander Scott Byrd, 50, of Cedar Hill, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025. He was born on December 29, 1974, at Adak Naval Station in Mitchell Field, Alaska.
Scott is survived by his beloved wife of 18 years, April Lunceford Byrd; his loving children, Wyatt, Nash, and Raegan; his sister, Jennifer Gathman (Jim); sister-in-law, Crystal Lunceford Smith (Christopher); nephews, Tyler, Kyle, and Eli; and niece, Sophie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Marilyn Byrd, and his brother, Kevin Byrd.
Scott was a man of faith who loved his family wholeheartedly and cherished his church and work family. A devoted husband and father, he went above and beyond for his children. For over 25 years, Scott served with honor and dedication as a Commander with the Metro Police Department. He was always there for family and friends in need and was a steadfast member of Joelton First Baptist Church.
Scott wore many hats—volunteer coach for youth sports, dance dad, and Vacation Bible School leader—using each role as an opportunity to minister and show grace. Known for his wisdom and humor, his sayings like “Right is right, wrong is wrong, attitude is everything,” “We are going to get to getting,” and “With respect to” will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His love, warmth, and unwavering devotion will be remembered forever. Our loss is heaven’s gain.
