Mrs. Connie Gail Wilkerson Gibbs' Obituary
Connie Gail Wilkerson Gibbs, age 66 of Old Hickory, passed away on November 13, 2015. Connie was born in Madison, Tennessee on November 30, 1948 to the late Robert Carl and Alice Frances Wilkerson. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many.
Connie loved her Old Hickory community. Her father owned a barber shop in the area, and many of his customers were also their neighbors. She was a 1966 graduate of DuPont High School and spent much of her life in the close-knit neighborhood. While still in high school, Connie met the love of her life, Jerry. They met in late December, back in 1963, and Connie always felt that the Four Seasons wrote the song “December, 1963 (Oh What a Night)” for them.
Connie was a very social person, which brought a naturally shy Jerry out of his shell a little. She never knew a stranger and would talk to anyone about anything. She always thought of others before herself and she was known for being very generous. “She was very easy to fall in love with,” recalls Jerry.
Faith and family were the cornerstones of Connie’s life. She and Jerry were long-time members of Temple Baptist Church in Old Hickory. For their children, they set the example for true love and partnership. As a mother, Connie was strict, but very loving. She made sure that she was there for every athletic event and every function that her children were involved with.
Connie is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Jerry Gibbs; sons, Rob (Carla) Gibbs and Vance (Gina) Gibbs; daughter, Ashley Gail Gibbs; brother, Robert Michael (Junice) Wilkerson; and grandchildren, Benjamin Gibbs, Julianne Gail Gibbs, Peyton Gibbs, Gerald Cook, Aaron Cook, and Shelby Gail Nelson, Breana Parrish; as well as several nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
Connie’s family will receive visitors on Monday, November 16, 2015 from 4pm until 8pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Additional visitation will take place on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 from 12pm until 1pm. Pastor Terry Wilkerson will lead a Funeral Service to honor Connie on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at 1pm. Interment will follow in Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as Pallbearers.
