Mr. Curtis "Gene" Ward's Obituary
Curtis Eugene Ward (Gene), age 90, passed away on October 16, 2023. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, of 66 years. Gene was born on December 4,1932, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Alvin Curtis Ward and Wilda Lane Ward. He is survived by his sister Elaine Ward Head (Clyde), nephew David Head (Tracy), and nieces Dana Head Bass (Billy), Crista Kelly, and Cheryl Harper (David).
Gene was a proud graduate of Isaac Litton High School, class of 1951. He was alumnus of the year and served as president of the Litton Alumni Association in 2006-2007.
Gene began his career by repairing parking meters for the city of Nashville and eventually became Assistant Director of Parking for Metro Nashville. Gene was instrumental in bringing meter maids to the city. He worked with several mayors and city counsels during the next 45 years. Gene was a member, then president of the Institutional and Municipal Parking Congress.
He was involved in several civic organizations including Madison Chamber of Commerce and an American Red Cross Volunteer. He was a member the board of directors of Davidson Academy. He and Shirley were long-time members of Madison Church of Christ.
Gene and Shirley loved traveling with friends on vacations and cruises to Europe, Alaska, the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Hawaii, and across America.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 21, from 9:00 to 11:00 at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at the Spring Hill Mausoleum.
