Mr. David E. Sunstead's Obituary
Mr. David Emil Sunstead, 85, a resident of Nashville, died Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at St. Thomas Mid Town.
The Nashville, Tennessee native was the son of the late Emil Harry and Lucille Harris Sunstead. He retired with 40 years of service with the IRS and was one of the oldest living members of Grace Baptist Church. He was an accomplished pianist having played for the Seniors at church and many local bands in the 1960’s and 70’s. He had his own local playing combo. He was an avid train collector that traveled twice a year to national train shows in Pennsylvania. He loved animals and always had a story or joke to tell.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Holt Nichols Sunstead; a daughter, Lisa Symons; a step son, Bobby (Diane) Nichols; three grandchildren, Heather (Derek) Hazelwood, Jenny Nichols, and Jessi (Brad) Slayden; two great grandchildren, Blair and Ben Slayden; other extended family members.
A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted Friday, June 13, 2014 at 12:00Noon at Spring Hill Funeral Home with Dr. Fred E.A. Johnson officiating. The family will visit with friends Thursday, June 12, 2014 from 4:00 until 8:00PM and Friday from 11:00AM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Nichols, Joey Coleman, Brad Slayden, Daniel Rippy, Jimmy Morrissey, Derek Hazelwood, Jason Coleman, Josh Coleman, Denny Holt, and Sandy Holt. Honorary pallbearers will be Turner “Junior” Price, Jimmy Holt, Allen Nichols, David Nichols, Sam Weedman, Shon Sanders, Wendell Johnson, Four Square Sunday School Class at Grace Baptist, and the Train Collectors Association. Memorials may be made to Grace Baptist Church or the charity of your choice.
