Delmas "Dee" Carter Brake's Obituary
Delmas "Dee" Carter Brake, 88, of Brentwood, TN, passed away on July 3, 2024. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 5, 1936, to Jack and Arbie Brake.
Dee was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Barbara Whitaker Brake; his parents, brothers Fred, David, and Robert Brake; and sisters Jeanette McCawley, Katie Wilson, Fran Arrington, and Pam Jones. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Chip and Karen Brake, and his granddaughter, Carrie, who he considered his #1 bud.
Dee dedicated the majority of his career to Genesco, retiring in 2000 after 35 years of service. At the time of his retirement, he held the position of Vice President of Sales and General Manager of Larry Mahan Boot Co. During his tenure at Genesco, he served as Sales Manager for four different footwear divisions, forging lifelong friendships and mentoring many along the way.
He was an active, long-time member of St. Luke Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Madison, TN. Over the years, Dee served as an Elder, a Sunday School Teacher, and in various other leadership roles. He was deeply committed to the betterment of the church and was loved by those in the St. Luke community.
Dee always enjoyed the outdoors. Fishing was his passion, and he made countless memories out on the water with family and friends. Additionally, he spent many years working for local and state political campaigns. Above all, Dee was a devoted fan of University of Tennessee athletics, embodying the true spirit of a "Vol for Life."
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Spring Hill Funeral Home from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and on Tuesday from 9:00 am until 10:00 am. A celebration of Dee’s life will take place on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10 am, followed by a procession to the cryptside service at Hermitage Memorial Gardens. All who wish to attend the cryptside service will follow the Spring Hill staff and the family in procession to the cemetery.
