Ms. Delores Green's Obituary
Delores Fay Green, age 88, of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, passed away on Wednesday, July 17, 2019. She was born in Annapolis, Missouri, on September 29, 1930, to George and Bertha Ivester. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 32 years, Rev. O. Gerald Green and her two sisters, Louise Ivester and Verla LaPlant. She is survived by her four sons Dr. Stephen Green (Elaine Peeples), Dr. Daniel Green (Lynn Jones), Dr. Timothy Green, and Dr. Samuel Green (Keli Crow). She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, all whom she loved so deeply.
In the earliest years of her life, Delores made Jesus Christ the very center of her life as she gave her heart to the Lord in a children’s service when she was only five years old. Even at that very young age, the Gospel of Jesus Christ and her love for Christ’s church motivated her in all that she did. As a young teenager, she became the church pianist and young adult leader in a local Nazarene church. In college, she fell in love with the absolute joy and love of her life, a young preacher-evangelist who was also a college student, Gerald Green. Together, they served side-by-side in pastoral ministry until his untimely death. During their years of church ministry together, she often served in roles of church pianist, church office administrative assistant, district missionary (NWMS) leadership, and women’s Bible study leader. Whether it be in one-on-one conversations or in entertaining hundreds in her home each year, she practiced hospitality at its finest. However, her greatest joy in church ministry were the years in which she served many dozen young married couples as their teacher, shepherd, counselor, mentor, and friend. Soon after Gerald’s death, she relocated to Nashville and served for over twenty years at Trevecca Nazarene University, most of those years as administrative assistant to the University President. She quickly became known to faculty, administrators, staff, and most of all to students as a listening ear, a loving heart, and a genuine friend. In the midst of all that she did throughout her life journey, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren remained the pride and joy of her life. Of all the places across the world that she had the opportunity to travel throughout her lifetime, there was never a place that compared to being with her family. For Delores Green, “mother” was not a job or a title, it was the very core of who she was. No wonder, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren rise up and called her blessed. In her request that the hymn “It Is Well with My Soul” be sung at her funeral, she added these words: “That song is the testimony of all of my life.” Indeed, Jesus Christ was the very center of all that she was, all that she did, all that she loved, and all that she devoted her life to. In her life and in her death, may Jesus Christ be praised.
