A Gentle Soul: Remembering Donald Buckley
April 15th, 1951 - May 7th, 2025
Born in Nashville, TN on April 15th, 1951, Donald Carl Buckley was a kind and supportive soul who left a lasting impact through his gentle acts of kindness. Known as a true Southern gentleman, he dedicated his time to raising money for non-profit organizations like People with Aids (PWA) and Nashville Cares, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Donald loved hiking and biking. In his younger days he especially loved hiking the Tennessee portion of the Appalachian Trail. His passion for classic muscle cars i.e. his burgundy 1967 Chevelle Super Sport and Nashville's rich history reflected his deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. He was taught by his mother to play the piano by ear which in turn had him playing the organ for a rock band, The Extremely Rare and The Knightriders in the '60s.
He graduated from high school in 1969 and did some college after graduation. Shortly after, he started his career as a Police Officer for Metro Nashville Police Department where he worked for 25 years. During his time with the Police Department, he was awarded as National Champion Target Shooter. He then started his own company as a Private Detective for 10 years then transitioned into bartending at The Chute, where he eventually met his husband, Billy Ditty and life-long friends and chosen family.
He cherished his family dearly. Although he was preceded in passing by his parents, Frederick Thomas Buckley Sr. and Mary Katherine Buckley, his brother Frederick Thomas Buckley Jr., his sister, Margaret Elizabeth Mitchell their memories continued to inspire his gentle spirit. Donald was a beloved husband to Billy Ditty for 32 years and cherished uncle to Katherine Elaine and Frederick Thomas Buckley III, sharing with them his love of storytelling and the outdoors.
His kind gestures and supportive nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Donald's legacy of kindness lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.
