Mr. Donald Ray Gammons' Obituary
Donald Ray Gammons, 86, of Smyrna, Tennessee, (formerly of Nashville) passed away on Thursday, July 27, 2023. Born August 29, 1936, in Westmoreland, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Arvil V. Gammons and Dovie Beasley Gammons.
Mr. Gammons proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was one of the original six police officers that formed the Brentwood Police Department. He and his late wife, Gloria, were members of Bellevue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed golfing, watching his Atlanta Braves baseball, eating at the Catfish House in Springfield, a good Krispy Kreme donut, and anything/everything Corvette related. Donald was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who will be missed dearly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Gloria Burnett Gammons; sister Helen June Gammons; brother Horace Gammons.
He is survived by daughters Melanie (Michael) Dixon and Kristy (Steve) Bradley; granddaughters Megan (Jordan) Mayton and Morgan (Eric) Whittemore; grandsons Steven (Kim) Dixon, Travis (Kailey) Dixon, Tyler Bradley and Hayden Bradley; great-grandchildren Easton Whittemore, Courtland Whittemore, Joshua Dixon, and Ledger Mayton; honorary daughters Sharon Frazier and Rachel Smith; many beloved nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Titan.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, August 1 from 4 pm until 8 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home in Nashville. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service officiated by Dr. Mike Shelton will be held on Wednesday, August 2 at 12 pm noon at the funeral home. The family will welcome friends and visitors two hours prior to the funeral. Burial with military graveside honors will follow in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Dixon, Steve Dixon, Travis Dixon, Jordan Mayton, Steve Bradley, Hayden Bradley, Paul Joyce and Brandon Joyce.
