Doris Marie Toups' Obituary
Doris Toups passed away at 89 on Monday, October 31, 2022, in Hendersonville, Tennessee.
Doris Toups, born on August 13, 1933, was the daughter of Claudie Duhon and Edia Abshire Duhon of Abbeville, Louisiana. After graduating from Abbeville High School, she married William Carroll Toups and embarked on a journey as a military spouse and beloved mother. Her children always felt her loving support and participation in their education and activities – always the den leader, girl scout troop leader, classroom volunteer, chaperone, and any other role she could gladly support. She lived in many parts of the United States and the world, always making friends she remained connected with throughout her life. After many years living in San Diego, CA. Doris relocated to Hendersonville, TN in 1994 to be close to her children and grandchildren. She attended every possible function involving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was affectionately known as “Gigi.” She built a new community of friends in Hendersonville, participating in an enthusiastic card group and working out with her walking buddies.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters (and brothers-in-law) Loisy (and Eraste) Hebert and Delores (and Clifton) Boudreaux.
Left behind to cherish her memory are her children, Deborah Ann (and Allen) Marine of Hendersonville, TN; Cynthia Theresa Lepore of Alexandria, VA; Mary Jacqueline (and John) McEntire of Gallatin, TN; William Carroll Toups, Jr. of Dallas, TX; and John Malcolm (and Calyx/Donna) Toups of Chapel Hill, NC, 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family; and good friends.
The family wishes to thank the exceptional Adoration Home Health and Hospice and American House team for their respectful and thoughtful care of their mom.
The family plans to gather in her hometown in the new year to hold services and celebrate her life. We ask for your prayers and wishes for her happy homecoming.
Arrangements entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, "Where Nashville Comes to Remember."
