Mrs. Dorothy Brassell Matthews' Obituary
Mrs. Dorothy Brassell Matthews, 93, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2024. She was born on December 10, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee to the late Thomas and Elizabeth Brassell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Melanie Tudor, sisters, June Walden, Betty Gregory, brothers, Thomas Brassell, Jr., and Don Brassell.
She is survived by her son, Mark Matthews, granddaughters, Emily and Nicole Matthews, grandsons, Evan (Leanne) and Jordan (Megan) Baker, Colton (Sierra) and Cody Tudor, great-grandsons, Logan, Landon Baker, Suede and Easton Tudor and great-granddaughter, Lennon Baker, sisters, Shirley Reed, Peggy Tribble, Barbara Brassell, Beverly Lewis (George) and Brenda Smith, brothers, Robert Brassell (Jacqui) and Ken Brassell (Susanne), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Dot was a fun-loving independent person. As the oldest of twelve siblings, she was looked up to as a leader of the family. Dot was a beautiful young woman and very fashionable. She modeled for several years before her marriage. Dot graduated from Howard High School. After marrying, they moved to Pensacola, Florida and then later to Miami, Florida where she worked as a dental assistant for many years. Dot moved back to Nashville, Tennessee and started working at Sun Trust Bank as a secretary. She retired from Sun Trust Bank in 2001. She was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church and loved the Lord. Dot also loved the beach, going on cruises, entertaining, traveling, dancing, and spending time with family. Dot was loved by many and will be missed dearly.
The family of Dorothy Matthews cordially invites relatives and friends to a time of visitation and remembrance Friday, January 12, 2024, from four o'clock in the afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. A Celebration of Life Funeral service will be held the following day on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at two o'clock in the afternoon with the family receiving visitors two hours prior to the service. The committal will immediately follow. Reverend Tony Lewis will officiate the services.
