Douglas Ray Harris' Obituary
Douglas Ray Harris, age 85 of Franklin, TN, formerly of Nashville, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, January 17, 2013. Mr. Harris was born in Nashville, TN on January 9, 1928 to Richmond Glenn and Mary Jane Harris. Doug was a 1946 graduate of East Nashville High School. He worked at Genesco for nearly 40 years then retired from Nashville Thermal Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Robert Nipper, Clarence “Sonny”, Lucien “Sandy” and Glenn Harris, Jr.; and his sisters, Annabelle McIntosh and Louise LaFayette. A loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 65 years, Betty Brown Harris; sons, Doug, Jr. (Martha), Don (Tricia) and Terry (Melodie) Harris; daughter, Debbie (Bobby) Connell; grandchildren, Doug (Erin) Harris, III, Donnie Harris, Jenny (Christian) Brake, Terri Lynne (Brian) Work, Billy (Ginger) Connell, Cpt. Bobby (Shawn) Connell, Patrick (Kelly) Harris, Glenn Harris, Ryan Paul (Claire) Harris, Janey (John) Mason and Gregg Harris; great-grandchildren, Hannah Harris, Ericka Crook, Elijah Harris, Benjamin Harris, Judah Harris, Zachary Pierce, Mack Harris, Gregg Harris, Jr., Jordan Mills, Austin Connell, Emerson Connell, Kadin Connell, Caroline Mason, John Thomas Mason, Claire Connell and Annie Connell; and many other family and friends. A celebration of Mr. Harris’ life will be conducted at 2 P.M., Monday, January 21, 2013 from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Gaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery with grandsons serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 1 P.M. until 6 P.M. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 and from 12 P.M. until 1:45 P.M., Monday at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. John Austin, Dr. Julia Lewis, Dr. John Nadeau, Dr. Mark Wigger, Jack Koziol, P.T., Cindy Craft, Dermatology Nurse, Brentwood Baptist Church Deacons and Nurture Team, Employees of Pro-Med Ambulance and Fresenious Dialysis Clinic of Franklin. Memorials contributions may be made to the East High Alumni Fund or to the Heart Transplant Program at Vanderbilt Medical Center. Because of the generosity of an organ donor, Doug was given an extra 21 years of life to enjoy with his family. Well done, good and faithful servant.
