Douglas Ray Rogers' Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas "Ray" Rogers, who
left us peacefully on November 02, 2024 at the age of 78. Born on April 10, 1946 in
Nashville, TN, he was a cherished father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend,
beloved by all who knew him.
Ray grew up in Nashville, TN and attended Hume Fogg High School, where he excelled
in woodwork and mechanical activities. He enjoyed being surrounded by family and
friends. Ray cherished all moments spent with his grandchildren and great grandson.
He loved being outside, specifically cutting his yard on his riding lawn mower.
Throughout his life, he made significant contributions in mechanics, working at Wilson,
Wessner, and Wilkinson for many years. He excelled within his career, working on
heavy equipment. Ray also served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
His military occupation was a 71C, a stenographer within the motor pool. Within his
service, Ray was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and was honorably
discharged from the US Army.
One of his greatest passions and loves was God and family. Outside of work, Ray had a
passion for many things which included: NASCAR, football, wrestling, model cars, and
old Western movies. He also enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren for drives in
his truck while listening to old country classics.
Ray is survived by his daughters Kelley Lambert-Chiles (Alan Chiles) and Shelley
Whittier (Bryan Whittier), and partner Shirley Rogers. His grandchildren are Arianna
Carlock (Dylan Carlock), Bryley Whittier, William Whittier, and Isabella Lambert. He
recently welcomed a great grandson, Greyson Carlock. He was preceded in death by
his father and mother, Paul and Velma Rogers. Also preceded in death by his sister,
Linda Ann Farmer. He is remembered fondly by all who knew him.
In everything he did, Ray radiated warmth and kindness, teaching us all the importance
of compassion and love. He was a friend to all and never met a stranger. He was the
first to lend a helping hand for all family, friends, and neighbors. He will be greatly
missed.
Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate the life of Douglas Ray Rogers. In
lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Paralyzed Veterans Foundation or The
Wounded Warrior Foundation in honor of his legacy.
