Dr. Henry Allen Harrison's Obituary
Harrison, Dr. Henry Allen – Allen Harrison went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2012, at age 81. He is survived by his wife Ann Wall Smithson Harrison, to whom he was happily married for 51 years. He is also survived by son James Allen (Jim) Harrison, Jim’s wife Lori, and his grandchildren Emily, Jay, and Brady, and by his son John Gray Harrison, John’s wife Lisa, and his grandchildren Cole, David, and Anna Clarke. He is preceded in death by his father Henry Allen Harrison and his mother Mary Ethel Demonbreun Harrison.Allen is a 1950 graduate of Isaac Litton High School, attended Tennessee Tech University, and graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry in 1955. He served as a commissioned officer in the Army Dental Corps, 82nd Battalion Combat Team, at Brook Army Hospital, the Pentagon, and in Iceland between 1956 and 1958. He entered the private practice of dentistry in 1959 and retired in October 2003. He was an active member of the Nashville Dental Society (President, 1976-1977), the Tennessee Dental Association (Vice President, 1982-1983), the Academy of General Dentistry, the Society for the Preservation of Oral Health (President, 1989), and the Greater Nashville Dental Study Club. He was selected as a diplomat and Fellow in the American College of Dentistry and received the Fellowship Award for Distinguished Service from the Tennessee Dental Association in 1977. In 1993, he survived a lengthy fight with cancer during which the Nashville dental community rallied around him and his family and maintained his practice by treating his patients for over six months. Allen faithfully lived his days serving his Lord and Savior, blessing all those around him. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Madison Presbyterian Church from 1937 until 1985 and Christ Presbyterian Church from 1985 until his death, serving at various times as elder, elder emeritus, deacon, and Bible Study teacher. Allen was also active in Young Life Nashville and in medical mission work, traveling to Ecuador on several occasions to provide dental care to impoverished workers in remote areas. Visitation will be at the parlor in Christ Presbyterian Church on Sunday, July, 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, and again on Monday July, 16 from 12:00 – 2:00pm, with a memorial service celebrating the life and good works of Allen Harrison at Christ Presbyterian Church on Monday, July, 16, at 2pm. A private burial will take place on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please make any memorials to Christ Presbyterian Church, 2323 Old Hickory Blvd., Nashville, TN 37215. “Well done good and faithful servant . . . Enter into the joy of your Lord.” (Matt. 25:21).
