Edith Carol McWhirter's Obituary
Edith Carol McWhirter, 77, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away Monday, January 31, 2022. Edith was born on July 27, 1944 in Gainesboro, TN to the late Benton Morgan Davidson and Rozell Wheeler Davidson.
She was loved instantly by anyone who met her. Married to her late husband, William Allen McWhirter Jr., for 48 years, she brought 3 sons into the world. She was the best mother to them that they could ever hope for. Edith was always present for school events and was their “room mother” at school whenever she could be. For her 3 grandchildren, she never missed a school program, sports event, or musical. She loved them so much. She also showered her 8 great grandchildren with love and praise any chance she could get. Their Nanny was the most special and loving woman in the world.
Edith was adopted by many as their “Nanny”. She always made sure everyone’s belly was full and that they knew how special and loved they were. She could be feisty too and would stand up to anyone who would dare mess with one of her babies.
She had many dear friends she cherished as well. She spent many nights bowling for leagues throughout the years and loved travelling to the beach in Florida for vacation. She was a fabulous cook and could out-shop anybody. She loved the Lord very much and was a member of Valley View Baptist Church.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers James, Johnny, Henry, and Charlie Sr., and sisters Laura and Nettie.
She is survived by her three sons, Ricky Brian McWhirter Sr. (Gayle) of Gallatin, Mark Alan McWhirter of Nashville, and Anthony Shane McWhirter of Nashville; her three grandchildren, Rick Brian McWhirter (Kayla), Shana Wirt (David), and Cassie McWhirter (Andy); and eight great grandchildren, Austin, Katelyn, Jaylyn, Logan, Annelise, Juliet, Ryman, and Allen; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, February 7 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 8 at 12:00 pm with two hours of visiting prior to the service also at the funeral home.
