Edward Benson Arnold's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Edward “Ed” Benson Arnold, who left us on July 18, 2024, in Nashville, Tennessee. Born on October 14, 1943, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, he was the beloved son of Smith Thomas Arnold and Nilla Florence Benson Arnold.
Ed dedicated his life to serving his country and community. He retired from the United States Army in 1983 after 20 years of honorable service, including a few months in Vietnam. Following his military career, he continued his commitment to public service by retiring from the United States Postal Service.
Known for his neighborly kindness and infectious sense of humor, Ed never met an enemy. He married the love of his life, Sandra, on May 4, 1968, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. Ed was a pillar of his community, encouraging everyone to join the NextDoor app and serving diligently as the neighborhood watch and patrol. His innate sense of safety and dedication to his neighbors will be deeply missed.
Ed’s legacy of kindness, humor, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a community that is better for having known him.
In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his grandson Preston Thomas Arnold. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Sandra Joy Arnold; son Thomas (Jaime) Arnold; great-grandchildren Elsa and Ethan; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
The family cordially invites relatives and friends to visit on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, from eleven o'clock in the morning until the time of the funeral service at two o'clock in the afternoon at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road in Nashville. Pastor Scott Dobbins will officiate the service. The committal will immediately follow.
