Edwin Arthur Phelps' Obituary
Edwin Arthur Phelps, 98, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024 in Lakeland, Florida. He is survived by his wife, Lois McNutt Phelps of 48 years. Ed was born in Somerset, Kentucky, son of Arthur Phelps and Alice Calhoun Phelps and was the oldest of 8 siblings, surviving sisters Faye Lewis and Patricia Phelps.
Ed was blessed with six children, survived by Linda Mathews, Stephanie (Sam) Miller, Julie (Steve) Collier, and Celeste Woodall. Proceeded in death were his two sons, James Phelps and Kenneth Phelps. Ed had 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
Edwin was reared and educated in Cincinnati, Ohio. He served in the US Navy during World War II and was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 70 years. He was also a member of the Kiwanis and a Lay speaker in The United Methodist Church. He was very outgoing and never met a stranger. He worked for the Jewel Tea Home Shopping Service for 20 years as a divisional manager, then ventured out with his own coffee business with a total of 34 years in the industry.
Ed and Lois then moved to Lakeland Florida in 1989 to seek a career in real estate as a realtor/broker for 30+ years.
Ed and Lois loved to travel, go on cruises, but their favorite destination was Hawaii. Ed also loved fishing, playing cards, and the casino life!
A graveside service and Entombment will be In the Serenity Chapel mausoleum in Historic Spring Hill cemetery on Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2:45 PM.
The active pallbearers will be Kirk Phelps, Christopher Phelps, Kyle Pitt, Robbie Baird, Hunter Miller, Dylan Collier, Joshua Gregory, and Landon Gregory.
