Efrain Riera, Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Efrain Riera Sr., age 85 of Madison, TN passed away August 25, 2024 after a long and fulfilling life. He was born January 20, 1939, in Ecuador to the late Octavio Riera and Rosario Saldana.
Along with his parents, Efrain is preceded in death by his brother, Polivio Riera; sister, Graciela Riera.
Efrain married Mercedes Ortega in 1965, during their 59 years of marriage they had four children: Efrain (Sandra) Riera Jr., Diana (+), Johnny (Leila) Riera and Diana (Norberto) Riera-Gomez; grandchildren, Carolina Riera, Bryan Riera, Matthew Riera, Isabelle Riera, Sofia Riera and Andrew Gomez; sisters, Imelda Riera and Zoila Riera.
At a young age, Efrain left his home to help support his mother, which he did until her passing. He had different jobs in Ecuador before immigrating to the United States in 1976. In 1982 he was able to reunite with his family whom he missed dearly. He lived in New York City for 31 years. His main job was a knitting mechanic. Although he did not have formal training, he taught himself many trades and was considered a handyman. He took pride in completing projects with the utmost precision and always doing an outstanding job. He was an avid reader of books and in his later years read the Bible a couple of times. He would often quote verses and psalms and enjoyed educating others about his faith. He always emphasized the importance of education to his kids and grandchildren.
After he retired, he moved to Nashville in 2007 to be closer to his children and grandkids and help them out any way he could. He helped raise all his grandkids and was close to each one of them in a special way.
He will be most remembered by his love for God, his family and life as well as his willingness to help people out. He would often give to those less fortunate because he remembered when he was in need and others helped him.
Funeral mass will take place from the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 11AM with Father Thomas officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, August 30, 2024 from 5pm - 8pm and Saturday from 10am until time of service.
