Elbert Hutchison "Hutch" Carlock's Obituary
CARLOCK, Elbert Hutchison "Hutch"; age 86 of Nashville, TN passed away April 20, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Gleaves Carlock. He is survived by his children, Bruce Carlock, Hayes Carlock, Karen Carlock and Jeana Carlock, all of Nashville; sister, Kirkie Dean of Gallatin, TN; as well as 3 grandchildren, 1 1/2 great-grandchildren, and Grace, his beloved, Lab-Chow mix rescue dog. In 1953 Mr. Carlock founded Music City Record Distributors Inc. with an investment of $500. His company grew into a multi-million dollar international corporation. He was instrumental in the formation of the Country Music Association and helped pioneer Nashville's growth as Music City USA. He was a charter member of the CMA and also served as a board member. He served as Past-President of the Optimist Club, was a member of Dalewood United Methodist Church for over 50 years, and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force where he was stationed in North Africa during WWII. As an avid golfer, he scored 2 holes in one. He will be remembered for his kindness and was a true southern gentleman. He never had a discouraging word to give and always made friends wherever he went. Funeral Services will be on Friday April 23, 2010 at 1PM in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Robert Webster and Fred Hoffman officiating. Interment will follow funeral services in historic Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7PM and Friday from Noon-1 at Spring Hill.
