Ellen R Slate's Obituary
Our hearts are full of cherished memories as we say goodbye to Ellen Russell Slate, a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, who passed away on March 13th, 2025. Born in Red Boiling Springs, TN on May 24th, 1920, Ellen's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, resilience, and compassion.
Ellen was the daughter of Vesper and Bessie Mae Russell. She shared a special bond with her siblings, the late Edrel Carnahan and Roger Russell, with whom she created countless childhood memories.
Ellen was blessed with the love of two husbands, Charles Edwin Smith and Chester A. Slate, both of whom preceded her in passing. Together, they built a family rooted in love and unwavering support.
Ellen's joy in life was her family. She was the proud mother of her daughter, Melanee (Jim) Bryan, stepchildren, John (Barbara) Slate and Marie Slate, whose happiness was always her greatest wish. Her eyes sparkled with pride for her granddaughters, Cristin (Jay) Lewis, Jennier Adams (the late Bo Adams), and her grandson, the late Will McPherson. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ellie Ford, Thompson Adams, Parks Wallace and Sara Mac Wallace, along with many nieces and nephews.
Ellen faced life's challenges with grace and without complaint. Being an educator for 40+ years, her gentle guidance and listening ear were a comfort to all who knew her.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived. Your love remains with us always.
