Mr. Ellis Clinton Green, Jr.'s Obituary
Ellis Clinton Green, Jr., age 84, of Old Hickory Tennessee, passed away on January 5, 2015. Ellis was born in Davidson County on April 28, 1930 to the late Clinton Green, Sr. and Ruth Demonbreun Green. Ellis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He also served with pride in the United States Navy as a submarine technician.
Ellis met Shirley, his wife of 66 years, at Hendersonville High School, where he was the captain of the football team and she was a cheerleader. The two raised a large family.
His family recalls one story that Ellis told for many years, even in his last days. That was the story of him hitch-hiking across the country. Not one for travelling by plane, the excited new father gave up his seat on the plane to his first-born child while he travelled from San Francisco to Nashville to reunite with “Mickey” and his loving wife. As a grandfather, he was present at as many school and sports functions as possible. His family could always spot him in the seats because he wore his submarine hat everywhere he went. He would stop anyone wearing a similar hat and talk about their experience in the Navy. Ellis loved to talk to people, and his family said that he never met a stranger.
Ellis worked as a computer programmer for IBM for many years. He often took his daughter to work with him, and she admits to being mesmerized by the super computers that her dad worked on. Ellis loved hunting and fishing, too, and had a group of friends who enjoyed it with him.
Ellis is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughter, Michelle (Joe) Wasill; sons, Chuck Green, Richard Green, Randy Green, and Troy Green; brother, Dennis (Yolanda) Liggett; sister, Barbara (Larry) Darks; aunt, Etha Green; grandchildren, Joseph (Amanda) Wasill, Angela (Mike) Russell, Brandon (Melissa) Green, Angie Green, Daniel Green, Nikki Green, Brittney (Richard) Fisher; and thirteen great-grandchildren, as well as many longtime friends who enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with Ellis.
Mr. Green’s family will receive friends and visitors on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at Spring Hill Funeral Home. Additional visitation will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 9:00am until 11:00am. A Celebration of Life Service to honor Ellis will take place on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the Veterans II Garden of Historic Spring Hill Cemetery, with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
