Elmer I. Kent's Obituary
KENT, Elmer IAge 94 of Nashville, passed away February 7, 2010. He was born to the late John and Emma Jordan Kent on September 27, 1915, in Erin, TN. Elmer was an Army veteran of WWII. Following the war he was co-owner of Craig and Shoffner Hardware Company until 1959. For the next 50 years, he was self-employed as a manufacturer's representative for various firms in the building supply industry, working in sales until this year. He was a member of Inglewood Baptist Church. Elmer is preceded in death by his brother, Edward Kent; sisters, Alma Long and Maggie Lee Kent. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Helen Apple Kent; children, Carolyn Kent, Don (Darlyne) Kent, and Marilyn (Joe) Diaferia; sister, Willye Epps; grandchildren, Brandon (Sandra) Kent, Melissa (Nic) Hamilton, Rissy (Michael) Garvin, and Joseph Diaferia III; great-grandchild, Caitlin Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as Pallbearers are Brandon Kent, Joseph Diaferia III, Nic Hamilton, Michael Garvin, Jimmy Epps, and Carl David Apple. Honorary Pallbearers include members of the Dudley Miller Class of Inglewood Baptist Church, Dean Burleson, and members of the former Joy Class, Two Rivers Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. with a service following in the chapel at Spring Hill Funeral Home at 1 p.m., Dr. Kevin Shrum officiating.
