Mrs. Emily C. Gibson's Obituary
Emily Curtis Gibson age 86 of Nashville passed away peacefully on Sunday September 28th, 2014 at Alive Hospice from Leukemia.
Born June 18th, 1928, in Athens, Alabama to Charlie Curtis and Essie Lay she was the middle child between older brother Edward and younger brother Hugh. She grew up in a warm and loving home on a farm on the Tennessee side of the state line with the Veto Alabama post office, the train depot, and the only store for many miles right across the dirt road from their front porch.
That front porch must of been like the social center of Veto from the stories she has told of that era and how she loved the train trips and especially watching her Dad getting off the train and running to greet him. So you get the picture! It was another place in time. Perhaps that loving community made her the loving and caring person she would be all her life.
The mother of seven children she is now survived by husband of 40 years, James M. Gibson, four sons, Larry Claud (Brenda) of Goodlettsvile, Curtis Robinson of Nashville, Kenneth Robinson (Cindy) of Jonesborough, Randy Troope (Paula) of Chattanooga, 11 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a sister-in-law, loving family friend Priscilla Martin and a multitude of friends.
She was so loving of all her family, her children, her grandchildren & friends of her children and grandchildren. It was always special for her to meet new people and she never turned away any person in need of loving care or a place to stay. And it was indeed the luckiest day ever for any stray cat or dog that showed up at her house where they would always get the red carpet treatment. Who now will take up the task of teaching generations to make cookies or how to look at white puffy clouds and see animals and such?
A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014, 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Her grandsons Shane Claud, Trinity Claud, Troy Wood, Randy Troope, Jr., Jeremiah Robinson, Joshua Robinson will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be Wednesday 4:00-8:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Wounded Warrior Project". In lieu of flowers we would like to suggest a donation to the ‘Wounded Warrior Project’ ‘ woundedwarriorproject.org. Arrangements are entrusted to Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216, 615-865-1101, www.springhillfh.com.
