Mr. Emmett Grayson McCarthy's Obituary
Emmett Grayson McCarthy, Age 70, of Nashville, TN died on June 10, 2020. He was born on April 14, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York the son of Emmett and Eileen (Conboy) McCarthy both of whom preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children Grayson McCarthy (DC), Matthew McCarthy; sisters Kathleen Yost (Richard), Margaret McCarthy (Paul Warburton), Christine Beane (John), Eileen McCarthy, Virginia Riley (Mike) and Suzanne Palmateer (Wayne). He is also survived by one granddaughter Matilyn Cain.
Emmett was raised in Queens Village, New York and Silver Spring, Maryland. He lived most of his adult life in East Nashville before moving to Madison in 2015. He graduated from Gonzaga College High School and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree from Wheeling Jesuit University. Emmett moved to Nashville to become a songwriter and was known by the name Emmett Grayson. In Nashville, Emmett made many friends with whom he shared a passion for music. Emmett spent time with his friends playing at Nashville entertainment spots and frequented Bobby’s Idle Hour. Of all of the songs that Emmett wrote he was most proud of the song “That Rock Is Gonna Roll”.
When he was not playing music and song writing, he was a self-employed contractor. His goal was to do a perfect job for each customer. He had many return customers.
His biggest joy in his life were his son, daughter, and grandchild. He was a loving father, son and brother. His children and grandchild brought him much happiness. All his life people were important to him. Whether family or friend, he wished to be in close contact. He was generous and kind.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Spring Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery at 5110 Gallatin Road, Nashville, TN 37216 from 4-8 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church at 1225 Gallatin Pike South, Madison, TN. Burial will take in the Historic Spring Hill Cemetery.
